Classes
The WPSCA is offering FREE Intermediate Slovak Language Classes every Wednesday beginning February 22 through April 12, 2023, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
The class is for those with some prior knowledge. Instructor Božena Hilko, a native of Slovakia, is a veteran in teaching the Slovak language to children and adults. She was a high school teacher in Slovakia and has a master’s degree in Foreign Language education from the University of Pittsburgh.
Classes will be held at the Greentree Public Library in the Birch Room.

Scholarship: Summer Study of Slovak Language and Culture
WPSCA and the Stephanie Husak Scholarship Fund are offering a scholarship to study at the Summer Language Institute (SLI) offered by the University of Pittsburgh in conjunction with Comenius University in Bratislava from June 5 through July or through August 11, 2023. WPSCA will award $3,000 to the successful candidate to go toward the costs of the program, including transportation, tuition, and room and board. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a full-time college student
- Must be of Slovak heritage
- Must not have previously attended the program
- Must be accepted to the SLI program
- Must be willing to attend future WPCSA events to discuss your experience
No prior relationship with the University of Pittsburgh is required to attend the SLI. More information is available about the Slovak SLI program here.
If an eligible student has been admitted to another Slovak Language and Culture program or curriculum, it may be considered for approval by the WPSCA with prior permission.
The deadline to apply is April 30, 2023.
